The Department of Political Science seeks to provide students with a learning experience that will equip them to face the challenges of an increasingly complex job market and prepare them to become active and engaged citizens at the local, national, and international levels. The Political Science program provides students with a broad-based political education that is grounded in the field’s theoretical traditions. This includes a strong background in the fundamental branches of our discipline: Jordanian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, Political Theory and Public Administration. Political Science students acquire practical experience and develop connections in the community through a variety of legal internships. Our extracurricular activities, such as the Political Science Society, help students become engaged in local politics. Students gain abilities to critically assess contemporary political events and identify practical solutions to social problems. Political science majors develop analytical and methodological skills that will serve them well regardless of their chosen profession. Our students are very enthusiastic about different political activities whether at the school and the university campus or outside. They are very active and influential at the Student Union as well as they participate in different civil society organisation across the country. Plenty of our students at both levels, undergraduate and graduate, are from different Arab countries as well as from other parts of the world. The multicultural environment during class discussions deepens the students understanding of the politics of these countries and regions. In addition, this helps the students to build bridges of acceptance and develop their critical thinking based on neutrality. Thus, as a result of the department’s high reputation, many of our non- Jordanian students are either diplomats serving their countries in Amman or are sponsored from their countries to gain their degrees from our university.
