The Colorado European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Colorado Boulder, the European Union Center of Excellence of Seattle at the University of Washington and the European Union Center of Excellence at the University of California, Berkeley are pleased to announce and solicit applications for the sixth annual Graduate Research Workshop on the European Union, to be held at the University of Colorado Boulder on May 15-16, 2014. Applications will be accepted through April 2nd, 2014, and acceptances will be notified by April 9, 2014. The workshop advances two direct aims: to provide a forum for US-based graduate students at the dissertation level to present research focused on the EU and/or Transatlantic Relations to an audience of knowledgeable, supportive, yet critical faculty and peers; and to provide methodological instruction to students in a way that is relevant to European Union-related work. A more general goal is to improve EU research in the United States by building a strong cadre of students with some sense of a shared project and a commitment to carry out sound research with an eye toward completion of the degree and publication of research results. Professors James Caporaso (University of Washington), Joseph Jupille (University of Colorado) and Cliff Carrubba (Emory University) will be responsible for organizing and conducting the workshop, which will be organized around and informed by the research problems and opportunities presented by the EU and Transatlantic Relations. Doctoral students with approved dissertation topics focusing on the EU in any academic field may apply to attend the workshop. Applicants should submit a 5-page research proposal and curriculum vitae to ceuce@colorado.edu Applicants should note the current stage of their research and the name of their dissertation/thesis adviser. The deadline for receipt of application materials is April 2nd, 2014 with selection decisions to be announced within one week. Graduate students selected to participate in the 2014 workshop will be expected to give a formal presentation of their research proposal and participate in all planned workshop activities. The organizers will cover the costs of a round trip economy airfare from participants’ home cities to Denver, along with two nights’ hotel stay and most meals. This workshop is made possible by the generous funding of the European Union Delegation to the United States through the EU Centers of Excellence program.
